Robert Jones

Robert Jones is originally from New York and is a 3rd generation glassblower. While growing up surrounded by glassblowers, he still realized that he needed formal training for his own growth as well as to be able to learn different styles and techniques from others outside his family environment. Prior to launching his quest to being a glassblower, he was enrolled in a trade school to study carpentry, sheet metal and aviation from 1974-1981. He then studied drawing at University of Washington in 1984 and Liberal Arts at North Seattle Community College in Seattle, Washington.

His artistic interests were then turned back to glass. Jones studied at the infamous Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington in 1997under Willy Dexter and Jim Harmon. In 1989 he took glass courses and workshops with some notable glass artists - Sonja Blomdahl, Rich Royal and Bob Carlton. He also took a course in welding and fabrication while he was there which would later be of real benefit to him.

Robert Jones has done numerous exhibitions and his work can be found in many corporate collections including but not limited to The Westin Hotel in Bejing, China, Neiman Marcus in several locations, Kemper Securities in Seattle Washington, Washington Mutual Center in Seattle and Seafirst Bank in Seattle. Over the last several years, Jones has focused on and has perfected the design fabrication of hand blown glass sinks and lighting fixtures. The sinks in particular require a complete understanding of all aspects of incorporating a 1 inch thick glass bowl into a functional environment exposed to hot water, pressure fit next to metal and varying temperatures.
